Day 7-Friday April 6 Mile 840

6 04 2012

Hope you all saw the  beautiful full moon last night, it was awesome.  We enjoyed our bike ride to the New Smyrma Beach historic town, just up from the marina;  so quaint and quiet.  The palms lining the main street were awesome.  They’re  my favorite tree (maybe except for our maple tree in the fall).

We left at seven am and travelled up to the Ponce De Leon Inlet near Datona Beach where we stopped at the Sea Love marina to pick up our windlass motor and have it installed.  Such a cute place and the people were very friendly.  We couldn’t believe the speed of the current as the tide went into the inlet,  it was 4 or 5 miles an hour.

We had a great lunch at the “Down the Hatch” restaurant there and went for a bike ride around the inlet and to the beach.  The wind was very strong from the east and the surf was huge.  We walked in the sand and watched wind surfers having a blast.  When we got back to the boat a live band had started at the restaurant in front of us and we sat and listened to strains of Margarittaville and other tunes.  We went over and danced a bit and got introduced to the “Red Solo Cup”song.

I’ll be mentioning amusing boat names as we travel.  Saw a couple today-BITT-R-END  (with a painted female in a bikini lying on a towel).  Also for you Sienfeld fans-SOUP KNOT SEA-(clever eh!)

Here is a quote from George Bernard Shaw “you don’t stop having fun because you grow old, you grow old because you stop having fun.”

We’re staying at this marina tonight.  The wind is really strong and it’s supposed to storm but we’re snug and secure on  our dock.  Night all.

Have been reading each day and what amazes me is watching the miles go down so quickly… don’t know why, but I thought you’d be taking sooo much longer…I’m sure before we know it, you’ll be at mile 30 and then you’ll be in Whitby for the night…hee hee! That would be fun…and then I’d bring out the parents and such for a visit…if that works out of course.

BTW… Ryan is coming to Memere’s for Easter dinner with our small clan on Monday. Thought you’d like to know that. I called him this week and thought if he wasn’t doing anything he might like to join us here for Sunday Easter dinner. He was off to a cottage so I said we could probably move it to Monday and then he could swing by for supper. I think he was thrilled that we thought of him. He was after all, the only family member around besides me, Michael, Livy and Duane… strange times.

Safe boating!

I got to thinking about quotes after you quoted a few people in your last posts and thought about Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) and thought of these ones…

“Education consists mainly of what we have unlearned.” Mark Twain

“It ain’t those parts of the Bible that I can’t understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.” Mark Twain

“Happiness ain’t a thing in itself – it’s only a contrast with something that ain’t pleasant.”

Hi Gisele-great to hear from you and thanks for thinking of Ryan. Just to let you know the mile zero is Norkfolk Virginia (the end of the ICW) we will still have about 500 miles to go.

Ahhh….that makes much more sense…about the miles thing! Ok…you’ll be much longer which is what I was thinking in the first place.

Happy Easter

ps….dinner was cancelled….but Ryan might drop in on his way back to see us.

Hi Huguette and Ed
Randy is down here in Windsor for Easter and wishes you a safe trip. He is doing well, but says he’s sorry he couldn’t talk on the phone to you earlier last month. First part of his treatments are over, and he’ll find out more in the middle of the month.
Happy sailing and fair skies!
Love you and miss you
Randy and Terri
