Day 18, Apr. 17, Mile 354, Barefoot Landing, Myrtle Beach SC

19 04 2012

What perfect weather we’ve had on this trip; sunny every day and high 70’s and 80’s, except for a day or two. We’ve really enjoyed this adventure!

Today had the best scenery we’d seen on the ICW so far; it reminded us of the Muskoka area in Ontario. We were traveling along the Waccamaw River where you are surrounded by total wilderness as you float along fresh water the colour of coffee(called ‘ brackish)’, due to the tannic acid in it. Many ospreys stand guard in their nests and watch us as we pass by or soar above us in flight. Because of the fresh water, the greenery is especially brilliant.

Our arrival time to any anchorage or marina has been about 4PM. We’re usually tired by then and it ensures us a spot, although it has not been too busy anywhere so far.

As we approached Myrtle Beach we started noticing lots of golf courses and many condos. We docked along the wall at Barefoot Landing; a lovely walking and shopping area in Myrtle Beach. We looked around a bit then met Don and Wilma for Happy Hour and dinner at T-Bones. Good-night everybody
